A Blast a Day to Get Rid of Cravings

One of the most common complaints among those with diabetes is about the constant cravings that occur, especially for sweets between and after meals.

Dealing with cravings can be quite a challenge. Before dealing with them, it's important to first determine the cause.

Sometimes, it's simply habit. Many individuals were raised to have something for dessert with every meal. For many, breakfast IS a dessert; think fruit-flavored cereals or waffles with whipped cream, fruit and syrup. Quite simply, this needs to be changed and your NutriBullet can provide the optimal breakfast your body needs!

For other individuals, the body is craving certain nutrients it hasn’t received. However, the message isn’t really clear. This is usually a problem for those who get very little nutrition from vegetables and who consume lots of processed foods.

Another scenario, the biggest one for most diabetics, is falling blood glucose after a meal. This is typically the result of a poorly-planned meal that is high in starch and fat and low in fiber from vegetables.

Going back to the basics of planning a well-balanced, high fiber meal can help prevent the fall in blood glucose after a meal. Getting a minimum of 10 grams of fiber during mealtime is very important. Optimizing the fiber to 20 grams can make an even bigger difference.

Also, look at the size of your meal. If the meal exceeds 60 grams of carbohydrate or has more than about 10 grams of fat, a decrease in these components may help prevent cravings later on. This means, if you're having too much pasta, rice, potato, or other combination of carbohydrate, cut it back!

It IS okay to plan a snack for after a meal, especially in the evening after dinner, but make sure it is not going to start your craving process over again. Make it a balanced snack, just like your meal.
