Calming My Psoriasis

Calming My Psoriasis

My name is Amanda Faatz. I am 33 years old and have been diagnosed with 4 autoimmune diseases: Psoriasis, Psoriatic arthritis, Hashimoto’s, and PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome).

I was 183 pounds at my heaviest and only 4 feet 10 inches tall. Almost 2 years ago, I thought I was having a heart attack. My husband called 911 and thank God, I was in bad health, but not dying that night. I laid on the floor with my husband holding me and all I could think about were my 3 little ones that would be left behind if I didn't take control of my health. The very next day I started “MY Diet.” January 16, 2012 was the day I took control.

I was first diagnosed with Psoriasis by a dermatologist when I was about 10. It started with a little patch in my hair, then came the cream and solution-based steroids. The psoriasis kept growing! The second disease I was diagnosed with was Psoriatic Arthritis when I was a teenager, 14 to be exact. My mother took notice that I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, even more so than the “average teen.” Once I did get out of bed, I could hardly move or function until I took a long hot bath to soothe my body and loosen it up. My parents decided it was time to look into this, so they took me to Duke Medical, where I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. Then came the anti inflammatory meds. With all the steroidal meds, of course I have become the rightful owner of a whole slew of side effects from bad vision, fertility problems, hormonal problems, digestion problems and more!

I did mention that I have 3 little ones. Due to the drugs' side effects, we did have trouble conceiving and had to use fertility medications for 2 out of 3. My only little girl, 5 years old now, was a pleasant surprise. I don’t know if you know anyone with Psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis, but let me just tell you that the pain in my bones was debilitating at times and my psoriasis felt like someone had sprayed me with gasoline and lit me on fire. I ended up using steroid injections as well, just so that I could take care of my babies without so much pain. Fast forward a few years later, I was in very bad shape. I had learned to just count on meds and the funny thing is they weren't even helping. So the night that I thought I was dying grabbed my attention!!

I went to the doctor and they found out that I had Hashimoto’s disease, which is an autoimmune Thyroid disease. My own body thought that my thyroid was a foreign object and was trying to destroy it. Well, I had had ENOUGH! I was sick of the meds, so I drastically changed my diet. Three months later, I had lost 10 pounds and something strange started happening: I couldn't stop bleeding. This was very strange since I only had about 3 menstrual cycles a year, so after a month, I once again went to the doctor and they said I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, an autoimmune/insulin resistant disease in which your monthly “eggs” don't drop and instead cling to your ovaries and create hundreds of cysts. They offered me more meds, I said NO THANKS and went on my way. I stayed faithful to my diet, I continued to bleed for 6 months and then... stopped until the next month. I have had a menstrual cycle like clock work every month ever since.

You see, my husband and I believe that through diet, the PCOS is GONE. In March of 2012 after being faithful to my new way of life, I decided to look into schooling for proper and natural eating. I found The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where my favorite instructor was David Wolfe. One day after taking my kids to school, while eating my boring breakfast, I saw David on TV promoting the NutriBullet. I was instantly sold; the truth is I trusted him. Although I was 43 pounds or so lighter and had improved my health, my psoriasis was killing me. My kids couldn't hug me, I couldn't get close to my husband, it was hard to work, I had NO quality of life; I was at times just wishing to go on, to be with the Lord just so the pain would stop.

I began juicing not just for me, but my entire family. My dad's health got better, my husband's health got better, my children were juicing, but still minimal change for me. In march 2013, I graduated as a Certified Health Coach, but still wasn't in perfect health and that was hard for me. I’m not exactly sure what happened or what caused it, but in July 2013 I had “the outbreak from HELL” and I just made the decision to stop my meds, stop drinking my one cup of coffee, and increase my smoothies! Within 8 weeks, I went from 80 percent covered with Psoriasis to now about 3 percent covered - that's not a typo, three percent! I have a video diary on YouTube: “Psoriasis Hell” parts 1-4 and a follow up called “psoriasis hell no more.” Please watch and help me get my story out. I need you to understand: This is MY story to tell! I have worked very hard to get rid of joint pain, extra pounds, reverse my thyroid disease and more, but the NutriBullet gave me the extra push to help my skin and to help me maintain good health!

My knowledge, paired with the NutriBullet, has for sure changed my life!

What a great story! I'd love to find out what your smoothie recipes were. I just started using nutribullet today and have had psoriasis for over 10 years now. currently i'm taking a nasty biologic, which has worked, but the first missed dose and it comes back really bad. Thanks for the info if you'd like to share.

I am 45 and also diagnosed at age 9 with Psoriasis, and at 43 with Psoriatic Arthritis. My health had also made a drastic decline by late summer of 2013. Nuerological problems paying particularly to my nervous system. $45, 000 later worth of hospital, specialist and test bills, the problem remains a mystery to the medical community. I can completely relate with your story as mine at 45 is still being written. Like you, I too discovered the Nutribullet by way of it being gifted to me. Friends were concerned about my health and stepped up. I've been using my Nutribullet faithfully now for 3 wks. I too have made extreme improvements. However, like so many others have asked you, do you have a recipe for our condition? I use the Lemon and Lavender recipe quite often for my skin, a variety of anti inflammatory recipes as well as for arthritis. I commend you for overcoming your life's struggles much like me. Kudos!
we need the recipessss ?? please somebody put them !! thanks

I have Psoriasis into hair ears and arms please share the smoothies you used to help this Thanks Linda
Wow Amanda! I'm glad everything is getting better and better. I've had the same menstrual problem for years... even when I got my period at age 11. Finally, a doctor diagnosed me with the similar or same syndrome. I can't really remember lol. I've been doing a lot of shakes ever since I've bought my Nutribullet. Such a difference. (: Hopefully I can get my period regulated like yourself. Continue with your healthy living!

GiGifagon...My husband has psoriasis behind both of his is crazy. I hope this works. He may not try as he is tired of trying all the crazy concoctions I find online. Amanda you look great! It takes a lot of strength and courage to go through a transformation like that. Hope it continues to work out for you so that you can be the best mom to your children and wife to your husband. Your husband deserves some kudos too as he must of supported you through this.
I am a little lost on this. Do you wash your hair and body with the listerine shampoo or is the listerine shampoo separate from the baking soda water?

I'm 24 and have had psoriasis since I was about 10 it started in my hair and over the years it has just spread. I have it in my eyebrows, ears, on my legs, arms, even on my girl bits. It's horrible!!! I've been putting Cortizone cream on my patches but if I could find a Blast recipe to eliminate it I'd love it.

Had psoriasis. Vitamin E capsules (punch small hole into capsule, put oil on dry spots, 2 times a day until clear. Add Listerine to shampoo. Make small bottle for yourself. one cup size, 1/4 cup of listerine. First wet hair, apply half small box of baking soda to 32 oz. of water. stir. pour into hair, (close eyes). and entire body. let sit 2 minutes. This is called clarifying. (I am a cosmetologist). Rinse, shampoo with listerine shampoo. (close eyes). rinse well. then condition hair and entire body. Most people with psoriasis has lack of flax seed and other natural oils in the body and water.
and you got rid of it just doing the vitamin E capsules and listerine shampoo ? in how many months did the changes begin ? thank you
