I love tomatoes, but for some reason I have been apprehensive about using them in my NutriBlasts. Like so many of us, I have become comfortable with my regular rotation of ingredients and have overlooked the benefit of using tomatoes in my NutriBlasts.
Tomatoes have a really good reputation. They are known to lower the risk of certain cancers (my favorite stat!) and protect against high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart disease. Tomatoes are low in calories and sodium and high in Vitamins C, A, K and potassium.
I began researching the best combination of ingredients to get the most health benefits out of my newest tomatoe recipe. I had to test out several different concoctions before arriving at my favorite, which I'm happy to share!
Please note that you can add/subtract and adjust this recipe to your tastes. I find it to be refreshing, especially during the summer months. It took about three sips before this drink made friends with my taste buds; give it a shot!
- 1 handful or rinsed spinach
- 1 slice of an orange or red bell pepper
- ½ of an avocado
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 small tomato
- Dash of lemon juice
- 1 very small handful of parsley
- Water to max line
**Add 2-3 ice cubes after you extract. Tastes much better cold.
Variations: You can add a celery stalk and more avocado to your liking.
This tomato recipe is high in antioxidants and can help us ward off inflammation.
