Everything You Need to Know About Gaskets

nutribullet gaskets and blades

Gaskets! What are they and what do you do when they need replacing?

Gaskets are the rubber-band looking thing inside your blade. They are hard to spot, unless you know what you're looking for. This is the gasket:

Often people think that to properly clean their blade, they need to remove the gasket. Stop right there, the gasket should NEVER be removed from the blade. This loosens the gasket and makes it less effective at doing its job.

What do gaskets do?

The gasket ensures a tight seal on your blade, if this loosens then you’ll have a leaky mess on your hands when you use your NutriBullet.

What is the best way to clean your blade and gasket?

Wash your blades by hand with warm, soapy water and a dish brush to loosen any stuck-on debris. If you want a deeper clean, rinse the blade with a 10% dilute vinegar and water solution or lemon juice. We recommend hand washing over dish washing as the heat from some dishwashers may damage the gaskets and cause them to loosen and fall out.

How often do blades need replacing?

To keep your NutriBullet operating in tip-top condition, we recommend replacing your blades every 6 months.

Can I buy just a gasket?

Gaskets are not sold individually. Each blade comes with a deep-seated gasket to ensure that it does not fall out. We do not sell replacement gaskets because gaskets are difficult to properly install and get stretched or damaged in the process. If you do find NutriBullet gaskets for sale, do not buy them. They are counterfeit and not recommended for use with your NutriBullet. Learn more about counterfeit items here.

What should I do if my gasket loosens?

If your gasket loosens or falls out at any point, purchase a new Extractor Blade for your NutriBullet. It is recommended that you change out blades at least every 6 months if you use the NutriBullet regularly.

Do the blades and lids come with the gaskets installed? Asking since supposedly the ones I got my daughter for her college dorm, according to her don't have the gaskets, but I think they would have leaked.. Please advise.

Hello Marcela, Thanks for your post. Yes the gasket comes preset inside the blade assembly. It will be the same color as the entire assembly which will be gray or black depending on which model you have. If there is no leakage the gasket is definitely there. Enjoy your day!

McKenzie Jones, RDN representing NutriBullet has four different answers for the issue regarding extractor blade changing frequency.......1.every year, 2.every 9-12 months, 3. every 6-12 months, and 4. every 3-6 months, so which one is it?

I bought a replacement blade direct from nitro bullet it did not come with a gasket installed! I ordered gaskets from Amazon and of course they don’t fit. Now I see that it was supposed to come installed. Any options no doubt my order is on record although it was months ago. Afraid to order another blade with no gasket.

I didn't realize it wasn't supposed to be taken out. Is there a way to get it back on?

Thanks for reaching out! We do not sell the gaskets separately and we do not recommend that you take them out as per your user manual. When the gasket comes out or is damaged we will need to replace the whole blade assembly. We recommend to replace them every 6-12 months depending on daily usage for the best performance. Please call us at 855-346-8874 for further assistance with the blade replacement. Our office hours are open from 6am to 5pm Monday- Friday (Pacific Time).

I have a Magic Bullet.. I bought two new blades.. the gaskets in both are so small they allow everything through the unit and ten times now I have had to dry out my motor part to use again.. Where can I get real blades with real gaskets for my bullet.. I am not going to spend anymore money on new blades if the gaskets are not right.. Not amused..

Seems like money grab, why change whole blade assembly when you can just replace gasket. Mine also have mold growing in. Mine was smelling and Im glad i took mine out to clean. Dont know how long mold has been growing in there and mixing with my food. I clean mine right after I use it everytime.

I agree wholeheartedly with RickyT. I didn't realize that the gasket wasn't supposed to be removed, so I usually took it out for cleaning, and reinstalled it well--it always worked fine. After not using it for a while, I didn't realize I had left the gasket to air dry loose on top of the extractor blade, so I ruined the gasket (and the drink). That I can't buy a replacement gasket is just wrong. I don't need a new blade assembly, it's totally solid, no give on the blades, only used about 40 times total. Whatever reason they have for this policy, it's not valid in my actual, real-life use case. Gasket removal/replacement has been successful for me maybe 25 times, plus however many times RickyT did the same, so how can they expect us to accept their canned answer? Will not be buying the blade assembly on principle. I'm pretty upset because the policy is clearly about something else, perhaps wanting to push regular blade assembly replacement because of known leakage into and out of the bearings, caused by misuse/overfilling/age, none of which applies to me. It's like you take your car in to get new tires, and the dealer won't help you unless you get new wheels, too.

Thanks for your message. I do apologize for the inconvenience caused! The blade assembly will need to be replaced. We also recommend replacing it every year for best performance. Once the gasket is taken out, the whole blade assembly will need to be replaced. We do not recommend to do that. The gasket will stay sealed inside the blade assembly at all times. Please call us for further assistance with the replacement at 855-346-8874. Our office hours are open from 6am to 5pm Monday- Friday (Pacific Time).

Iv'e noticed a significant amount of mold buildup through day to day use within the 6 month replacement period. It is unrealistic to think the consumer replace the entire blade.

The gasket popped put of mine while in use and got tangled in the blades. I turned it off immediately and just untangled it then popped the gasket back in (after cleaning up the mess of course). I haven't had a problem since then. I dont believe it is necessary to buy an entire new blade just because the gasket comes off. It's just a marketing gimmick to make more sales. I haven't had any problems with mine. It's been months since it first happened and everything is working perfectly fine. It is easy to pop back into the blade, not complicated to see which direction is right side up, and perfectly used friendly. No reason at all to buy another blade.

I have to regularly remove the gasket to remove the putrifying food trapped in there. If you’re not making a system with easily removable and replaceable gaskets then make a blade assembly with an inbuilt gasket so food can’t get trapped down there and rot creating a health hazard.

I brought a Nutribullet NBR-1201 and on day three the gasket in the extractor blade fell out while I was washing the blade (by hand). Now I see, according to this blog, I have to buy a $20 blade each time this happens. This is a great machine for making smoothies and I love it but with a design flaw this large, it doesn’t matter about anything else. The warranty doesn’t cover this flaw so I am stuck with buying a twenty dollar blade each time this happens (which looks like it will be often).

Too funny.... I didn't know about this. Had my gasket fall out a few times & just put it back in. No problems that I could see. I even thought I had to take it out occasionally for cleaning underneath. Liquids find their resting places easily, and I don't want any mold build up. It' a rubber band. You'd have to reaaaaally stretch it out for it to become ineffective. A bit tricky to seat, but common sense tells you what to do. But, I don't use mine all the time.

The gasket came out of mine the very first time I used it. I looked online to see about it, and wow, there seems to be a lot of problems with them. NutriBullet needs to work on a fix for this defect, but in the meantime at least provide replacements. Why should I have to purchase a new part to fix a brand new appliance that should be working? NutriBullet should provide replacement parts at no cost since it is a defect on their appliance.

Exact same thing happened to me. Gasket popped up on second use of my new nutribullet. I have to admit this never happened on my previous nutrbullet. Maybe there is a fault in the newer models.

Really an interesting blog to read about gaskets and their importance. A metal reinforced gasket is the one in which it can withstand high temperature and pressure whenever a liquid flows through the joints.
Your site says gaskets are built to ensure that they don't fall out ... what a ludicrously dumb assertion. This is real life, and of course your gaskets fall out. I'm lucky mine hasn't shredded into the smoothie like these other folks, but it HAS twisted itself out several times when I unscrewed the extractor blade from the container. Now the gasket has developed a tiny, tiny edge split from the force of twisting. Since you refuse to sell replacement gaskets, we consumers have no choice but to purchase third-party non-OEM replacement gaskets for a few bucks rather than throw twenty bucks into a new extractor blade every few months, as you suggest. Look, NutriBullet, either you're going to work with us, or you're going to work against us. And so far, we see which way you roll. Sell replacement gaskets, okay?

So I really think it's a load of crap you don't sell gaskets separately. I just bought my nutribullet and the gasket fell out and into my smoothie drink as I was preparing it. Didn't know it fell out and the whole thing got shredded....gasket in 1000 pieces and smoothie ruined. AND YOU EXPECT ME TO HAVE TO PAY FOR A COMPLETE NEW BLADE SYSTEM TO FIX THIS??????? I DON'T THINK SO.....I'D RATHER GO BUY A DIFFERENT SYSTEM THAN TO GIVE YOU ANY MORE OF MY MONEY
