Over 100 Pounds Lost

Over 100 Pounds Lost

On the left is a picture of me in January. On the right is a picture of me today.

A few years ago, I was in a major accident that left me severely injured and hospitalized for about a year. I suffered major nerve damage all over my body and lost the use of my arms and legs.

I was confined to a power wheelchair and had to rely on my family and nurses to feed and change me. This was very hard for me as I've always been a very independent person.

Over the next couple of years, minor improvements were made; I was able to get out of the power wheelchair and into a manual wheelchair and, from there, I was able to walk using only forearm crutches. This was a big deal for me because the doctors told me I would never walk again.

With a lot of rehab, I finally got rid of the crutches and am currently using only orthotics on my legs for support - a result of the permanent nerve damage in my legs that I've never recovered from.

After leaving the hospital and rehab facility, I began to suffer from depression, no longer feeling like the same person. The fact that I couldn't do so many of the things that I'd been able to before my accident began to wear heavily on me.

I became a hermit, never leaving my home and finding solace in junk foods, which quickly became the only thing that made me feel good. This went on for years as my depression got worse. I eventually got up to nearly 400 pounds.

I became a father for the first time in March 2012 to a beautiful son named Andre. He's the reason and the continual motivation behind the drastic change that I needed to make. I was out walking with him about 9 months ago and he started to run away from me - toward the street. I was so heavy and out of shape that I was barely able to catch him in time. It scared me to death and it was what I felt that moment that changed everything. Something snapped inside of me. I couldn't continue like this.

The week before that, a friend of mine told me about his NutriBullet. He had been using it regularly, losing weight and feeling great. I decided to give it a try, thinking it might work for me.

My Blast of choice:

  • unsweetened coconut-flavoured almond milk
  • 1 scoop of low-carb chocolate protein powder
  • 1 scoop of hazelnut-flavoured instant coffee
  • 1 scoop of natural peanut butter
  • and finally, stuff it with frozen spinach, which you can't taste because the NutriBullet mixes it so well and blend away with a bit of ice!

I have that every day for breakfast and lunch. It keeps me feeling satisfied and full of energy all day. I've been doing this for the past 9 months, along with a steady exercise routine and long walks with my son. I'm proud to say I've lost over 100 pounds and I'm starting to feel like my old self again!

I've recently started working again, which I wouldn't have had the confidence or energy to do without my recent weight loss.

All in all, I feel like I'm well on my way to getting my life back and, most importantly, giving my son the father he deserves. I'm not yet where I want to be, but I know how I'll get there!

I plan on losing another 50 pounds following the exact method I've outlined and, with the help of my Bullet, it's only a matter of time before I get there!
