I don’t know about you, but my holiday season officially starts on October 31 – aka Halloween. Candy is the main dish for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for weeks on end. Then it’s off to Thanksgiving with the turkey and all the trimmings. December means Christmas and Chanukah, which easily translates to more turkey with a side of ham. Don’t forget the leftovers, all the wonderful leftovers. By January, I can officially don the term “stuffed pig.”
Every year I say the same thing to myself, “I will not gorge myself until I burst.” I will back away from the cookies, candy, and sweets, and every year I fail to do so. It’s like my personal 12-step program, but I usually give in to my candy addiction. I fumble through the kids Halloween candy like a junkie and usually manage to devour their Christmas sweets fairly quickly. The Snickers, Twix, and Kit Kats are always the first to go, saving the Tootsie Rolls for last. This year it is going to be different – I have my NutriBullet to give me will power.
Here is good sweet satisfying chocolate snack to fight off the evil demons of Halloween. Plus, it will help ensure you are not left a lump of coal for over indulging on Christmas.
- 1 banana
- 1 cup of vanilla almond milk
- 2 T cacao powder
- 1 T maca powder
- 3 ice cubes
- 1 small shot of whip cream (optional)
Place all ingredients into the large NutriBullet cup and blend. Add a shot of whip cream if you dare.
This is a healthier and still satisfying alternative to the holiday sugared junk food. You won’t be able to put it in a Christmas stocking, but you’ll feel much better about putting it in your belly. Keep the ingredients handy and every time you find visions of sugar plumbs dancing in your head, go straight to the kitchen and whip-up one of these babies. You’ll feel a whole-lot better come January and you won’t shake when you laugh like a bowlful of jelly.
