Coconut milk beverage is different than the thick coconut milk that comes in a can with fewer calories and grams of fat. Coconut fat is mostly saturated fat that has received a bad rap up to now. Some research claims that the medium-chain fatty acids may play a role in increasing metabolism, but others also state that there is no differnece on how these fatty acids affect LDL, bad, cholesterol levels vs. the long-chain saturated fatty acids found in butter. Coconut milk is a lactose-free option, provides 50% more calcium than cow's milk, and half of the daily value of vitamin B12. Selection Process

It is best to choose unsweetened coconut milk when available. Look for varieties that have added calcium, vitamin D, and B12.
