Weight loss

We have religiously used the NutriBullet since we purchased it 3+ weeks ago...at least once a day, sometimes twice a day. Unfortunately, I am gaining weight instead of losing.

I have made a lot of life changes- starting with doing a liver cleanse, dropping refined sugars and dairy from my diet 8 weeks ago (except butter) and I have also stopped taking my thyroid (hypo) medication. I dropped the medication because I had started it with symptoms of no energy, weight gain, dry skin and depression. After nine years, I am still fat (but it had stabilized out) , still have a tendency to be depressed and still have dry skin. I am introducing iodide and kelp into my diet to help boost the thyroid...and taking complex B, 1000mg C, 2000mg D vitamins and a reishi mushroom extract.

The NutriB is a godsend....I use flaxseed and chia seeds...nuts, greens daily as well as fruits and raw ginger. I am feeling better, we have started walking our hills out back every day and I hope to build up to start running soon.

But why have I gained 5 pounds? Do you think I am still regulating out from the low thyroid? I do know that that will take some time and am willing to wait it out. Any thoughts or insight would greatly be appreciated.Does anyone else have have my problem of wanting to over load the bullet? I always want to put to much into it! And last question...does the large cup make one or two servings? Lol...for the record, I have been splitting it with my spouse but would like to confirm.

Thank you for any and all help!

Thanks for the question. Congratulations on your new healthy journey! You will love it more and more as you continue to feel even better. If you have been on your past routine for a long time it will take your body time to adjust to new foods, or the form the food is in. This may take a few weeks and your weight can cycle up and down and will soon settle once your new lifestyle gets in a routine. Also when you weigh can greatly affect the difference. Make sure you weigh at the same time every time. The best time is upon waking and right after your first morning pee and naked. Do not weigh every day! Your weight can fluctuate several pounds one day after another. Only weigh every two weeks. Most importantly try to not focus on the weight but instead your lifestyle. The weight will naturally balance out over time if you eat healthy, eat the right amount of calories and exercise. Also you stopped the medication, which would most likely be part of the problem. I am not a doctor and you should consult with your doctor about this. If people want to come off of medications it is best to discuss this with your doctor and come off them gradually particularly when it involves the thyroid or hormones. You would normally introduce the other natural protocol while coming off of the medications. Calories control weight, the foods you eat determine your health and exercise influences your level of fitness. So if you are gaining weight I would look at my calorie consumption and make sure you are not over or under consuming. Yes, you can eat to few calories and gain weight. I have clients that think less is better and they gain weight. You need at least 1200 calories per day. If you do not meet that calorie requirement then your body goes into survival mode and begins to store the calories you eat as fat for the famine that it thinks is coming. If you don't have a way to figure the calories you need per day you can find many calorie calculators on-line that can help you. I have one on my website as well. If you are putting healthy foods into the NutriBullet fill it up and if needed have another one. It is hard to over consume healthy foods. However, even though nuts and seeds are very healthy they contain a lot of calories. It is not advised to overfill because it may damage the equipment of create spillage. Keep a food journal for at least 2 months. You can also find these on-line. Research tells us that those that keep food journals lose weight and keep it off. If you are eating a lot of fruit more than 3 servings per day, I would reduce it and stick to low sugar fruits. The sugar can create imbalances that effect hormones and the thyroid. Limit ground flax seeds to 2 tablespoons per day. They contain phytoestrogens (healthy forms) that can throw off your hormonal levels and may cause weight gain. Drink plenty of water. Your body requires water to burn fat and make energy. I hope this helps. Wally
Wow! I am honored to receive the great personal advice! It seems I am on track..my mistake was probably going cold turkey on the thyroid meds, but I hoped replacing it with iodide and kelp would balance it out. Thanks again for all the help...I feel like have my own (free!) personal nutritionist at beck and call instead of the one I pay for every two months. Do not worry, I will not abuse it. Seriously, I appreciate the help and I will be patient and start a journal. Have a great day! Diana
I am always glad to be of service. Thanks for the kind words. Wally
Hi Diana, I am currently onHi Diana, I am currently on armour thyroid for hypothyroidism myself, with the same symptoms you mentioned. I have been on them now for 8 years, and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia around the same time as the hypothyroidism. I am very curious about you going off the medication for that - did you read somewhere that you can, or talk to your Dr about it first? I ask because everything I've read says that once you go on thyroid meds that you have to be on them for the rest of your life. I would be very interested in knowing since I too have not had much change in the symptoms, even though my bloodwork comes back with good thyroid levels (on the meds)and feel that if I can stop them with the proper diet I would. Thanks, Nicole
Hi Nicole You really to talkHi Nicole You really to talk to your doctor...and ask him about weaning off the meds. I did not go about it properly and should have done more research. With having the same symptoms as when I started the meds...I became frustrated. I did go see an iriadology(sp?)/nutritionist before I dropped the meds and combined what she told me and the info I gained on researching the subject myself. I will go in for blood work in a month or so and depending on the results, might go back (gradually) on the meds or might stay off...depends if I can kick my thyroid into gear or not. It will be interesting to see what my cholesterol and thyroid levels are. I do not mean to be vague.. we are all different with different medical issues and I am not a doctor, it is safer if you do it under the care of your physician. For the record, I am feeling well over all. Good luck and keep me informed with what your doctor says! Diana
Thank you for this website. I have continued to loose weight using the Nutribullet - what an awesome product and great practical advice!
That is awesome! So happy for you! :-)
Update for the record... MyUpdate for the record... My lab work came back rather horrifying! Total Cholesterol 333, Thyroid at 107....this all while eating very healthy! Needless to say, I am back to taking the thyroid meds again and have started to drop a few pounds. Hopefully, I shall report back in with better lab results and more weight loss soon!
Although I'm not a pill pusher by any means......synthroid (levothyroxine) is one you can't stop. Even if you eat perfectly. It may help your thyroid function, but if your TSH was over 100, that is very high. Keep taking your medicine, and continue all the wonderful foods. Unfortunately, hypothryroidism is one that cannot readily be cured.
Ok correct me if I am wrong but how do you come up with the range of 100 for thyroid?? I just had my blood taken and my tsh was 1.16 and the normal range is 0.40-4.65 or so and I don't understand what you mean by 100??? please tell me

Haha I know I always do! (even though you aren't supposed to pass the MAX line...) The full cup can serve as a meal replacement, which is what I do, or I split one Tall Cup and drink it slowly, for more of a snack. :)
I have just joined the site. I am using my nutribullet X2/day for weight loss. I am exercising but am gaining weight. any suggestions ? thanks Lynda
Lynda it could be many things. So lets just get to the basics first and see if this helps. When we change the way we eat and live it takes our bodies a little while to get adjusted. Many times when people start NutriBlasting they add those calories to their daily plan instead of using it to replace another snack or meal. The added calories can add weight. The foods you are using may be stimulating hunger. Fruits and some grains can do this. However, chia seeds, flax seeds, rice bran, avocados and oats help curb hunger. When using avocados, coconut, nuts and seeds understand they are calorie dense and although very healthy if not monitored can cause weight gain. Many people over do fruits in their blast. Fruits are very healthy but too much sugar can create issues that will stall weight loss. These are my guidelines for sustained weight loss. If you exercise and stay with calories guidleines you can lose the weight. . 1) Exercise a minimum of 1 hour per day 5 days per week ( start slow and work up to that amount) 2) Eat 500 calories per day less than you currently need. (gives you a 1 pound a week weight loss). 3) Drink 1/2 your body's weight in ounces of water daily. 4) Never consume less than 1200 calories per day, ever! 5) Your diet should have a wide variety of colorful vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans and limited grains. 6) Keep a food journal so you know how many calories per day you are consuming. I like www.fatsecret.com and www.myfitnesspal.com/ 7)) Use the NB at least 2x per day. A few key points to remember that may help you. 1) Weight loss is all about calories eaten and calories burned over 24 hours. 2) Your activity (exercise) level effects the number of calories you burn everyday. 3) The foods you eat can effect your metabolism by speeding it up or slowing it down. 4) You must consume a minimum of 1200 calories per day to keep your metabolism from stalling. 5) 1 pound of fat = 3500 calories 6) Everyone should know how many calories they need per day for their desired weight. You can use the calorie counter on my website to figure how many calories you need per day at your current weight. http://www.viveforlife.com/nutrition-2/bmi/ (takes a few seconds to load) 7) If you eat 500 calories less per day than you burn you will loss 1 pound per week. 8) Water is very important for weight loss and our overall health. Hi there! FIrst of all I had my thyroid removed last year, i had a goiter the size of an egg, so i understand the ups and downs of the meds, the important thing is talk to your doctor before you stop taking your meds, when was the last time you had your blood work? They change my synthroid sometimes, I too gain wait just looking at something! I know everyone hates this question but do you go to the gym? I have finally started to lose weight and inches since my thyroid was removed last year, you have to work twice as hard when your thyroid is out of wack! I have a shake for breakfast, eat a lunch chicken or tuna, big salad, then hit the gym after work, when i get home i do another shake period, I eat nothing else. Who knows how our bodies are and why some people lose weight like crazy and some have to work very hard! I would take a look at what you eat during the day as well as what type of workout you are doing, I know at 49 Im over the ups and downs for sure! Good luck! (oh the iodine is the best thing you can get for yourself, make sure you take it in the morning)

I do the Nutribullet 3X"s per day.. the tall one..which is one the short glass.. right to the top..and all I do is 50% Fruit, 50% Greens, which i use Kelp, spinache, swiss chard, and variety greens. For my nut mixture, I use Chia seed, Hemp Seed, ground flax seed, walnuts, pecans, sunflower seed, pumpkin seeds, and in two months, I have lost 20 lbs, and 6 inches off of my waist.. so do put all your faith in Mr bullet.. and dive in..lol..
Congratulations on the weight loss and your journey to wellness Dcoop! Keep us update on your progress and thoughts! Healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.
I bought my NutriBlast one week ago, I am so happy to say I am down 8lbs without even really trying for weight loss. I mostly just wanted to focus on eating healthy and then get serious about loosing this extra weight. Well with NutriBullet it's easy!! I love this machine, and have sinced convinced three other co-workers to buy one!
I have Hashimoto's Disease which causes Hypothyroidism. My Dr lowered my Synthroid from 175 to 125. I have been using the Nutrablast for 3 weeks. I have lost 12 lbs. I do one shake for breakfast, have lots of whole fruits and veggies and a Greek Yogurt for lunch. I have a snack at 4 when I get home (carrots and hummus, etc) and dinner at 6:30 (usually fish, chicken or steak, brown rice and steamed veggies. I only use olive oil for cooking) I don't crave any bread. If I want a dessert, I have a small piece of dark chocolate. I drink water with lemon all day. I cut out my glass of wine at dinner. I started a boxing class two times a week and exercise on my own two other days a week. I work full time, with three children. It was time to do something for my self. I feel so much better, it is amazing. I got my sister to buy one, my husband is using it and now my brother is going to buy one too.

i have a question for a medical team member of nutribullet to please send me a message in my in box with the answer. i have no idea how to use this this forum and where to find the answer to my question, please help... i would like to know what fruits and veggies to make a juice for the jelly tissue inbetween our joints. as we get older it drys up and i want to know if there is a nutri blast that will help put that jelly tissue back inbetween the joints and bones, please help????
My doctor was very pleased when he said I had lost 17 pounds this year. I started blasting in January. He even took me off my blood pressure medicine. Now there are only about 43 more pounds or so to go! I have faith in my plan. As long as I keep on blasting and walking a mile a day, it will happen. Slow and steady.
Wally, Thanks for the great tips.
Sissy congratulations on your progress! Isn't it amazing what our bodies can do when they get great nutrition and we move more! Keep it up. Healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.

Hello She11ey! I think you are referring to the cartilage, correct? Without manipulation or some type of surgery it doesn't appear to be possible to regrow cartilage. http://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/news/20060309/coaxing-knee-cartilage-to-regrow However, you can take action to reduce joint pain and build collagen which may be helpful to you. Foods rich in vitamin C (broccoli, peppers, strawberries, oranges, and leafy greens), and vitamin A (carrots, sweet potato, leafy greens), plant-based protein (almonds, hemp seeds, beans, lentils, other nuts and seeds), and anti-inflammatory omega-3s (fish, walnuts, hemp and chia seeds) and certain oils (cold pressed coconut, olive, almond) are all great additions to a joint-friendly diet. In addition, three supplements that you may want to aks your Dr. about are: MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane) is a flexible bond between proteins for your hair, skin, joints, tendons and cartilage. Glucosamine occurs naturally in the body and helps maintain connective tissues and cartilage. Chondroitin is also found naturally in your joints where it helps your body attract fluid in to the cartilage. Hope this helps! Go to the home page of NutriLiving and type in arthritis and/or bones and you'll find articles, recipes, and healing foods for this condition.
Hi Readheamc, not so long ago I was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease as well and I also take levothyroxine 125. I just got my nutribullet and I found your testimonial very related to me, is there any way you can share with me the type of shakes you are drinking two times a day. It is very hard for me to lose weight. I work out and eat healthy but my weight is coming off very slowly. I hope I hear from you soon. Thank you,
three times a day? are you doing juice fast? is that all what you intake on daily basis?
Hi Sissy, I saw your post from 6-5-13. Just curious, can you explain your plan to me. Of course, I know you are incorporating our NB's. But, my weight has been stubborn. Was hoping your input will help me.
I just received my NutriBullet almost 2weeks ago, really love it, but want to know where can I find weight loss recipes?
jreyna thanks for the question. If you are looking to lose weight it takes more than just blasting. However the NutriBullet goes along way in helping us reach our health goals. As long as you use more veggies than fruits and stick to low sugar fruits you should be fine. I don't have specific recipes. Remember to account for the calories. Sometimes people add a blast to their diet instead of replacing a snack or meal with it. But I can tell you one I like, Green tea (brewed my self) or coconut water carrots green apple strawberries kale or spinach cucumber bell pepper almonds Braggs apple cider vinegar 1/2 tsp 1/4 tsp ceylon cinnimon stevia as needed for sweetness Check out my blog in the link below http://www.nutriliving.com/blog/frustrated-your-weight-loss-what-you-could-be-doing-wrong Healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.
Hi There... Congrats on the weight loss... I am expecting my nutribullet to arrive on Thursday according to the tracker... I am all about getting healthy and losing some weight. May I ask what you did and what you are doing to lose this weight? What ingredients are you using?
Why is it since using Nutribullet 3 times a day have i not had any bowel movements, although I have dropped 12 pounds in one week? I do drink plenty of water and make sure that my drinks contain 50% green veg.
londonlass wrote: Why is it since using Nutribullet 3 times a day have i not had any bowel movements, although I have dropped 12 pounds in one week? I do drink plenty of water and make sure that my drinks contain 50% green veg.
Constipation can be associated with rapid weight loss and often is related to a loss of fluids. You may find that you are drinking a lot, however when you increase the amount of fiber you consume along with water weight loss, you need to drink much more so that you don't "clog" up. Also, certain medications, such as iron supplements or laxatives may also find constipation a side effect (if applicable). Another thought is that because you are breaking down the fibers into liquid form by using the NutriBullet, your bowels are not getting that signal to contact like they might with bulkier food particles. Maybe try to cut back and have 1-2 Blasts a day and then a healthy meal with whole foods. Some physical activity also helps stimulate contractions and may also help get things moving. Check out this article here for some more tips and info: http://www.nutriliving.com/blog/getting-things-moving-fiber
Thank you for all of your advice, which I will certainly take your advice,

Hey! I responded to another forum post, but the Fat Burning Boost should be available online and at Bed Bath & Beyond in the coming weeks - patience! Here's the link for the contest giveaway. Everyone responds differently to the new NutriBullet regimen. A lot of it also depends on what you were eating over the past couple of months, you may be less toxic than you thought! Stick with it, 1 week is not enough time to notice changes and it may take up to a month before you start to notice a difference. This is my favorite recipe: 1 cup spinach, 1 inch of ginger, squeeze of lemon, 1 persian cucumber, 1/2 cup of parsley, 1.5 cups of coconut water.

I just started too but I am full of energy. Are you working out, too? It helps. When I started, I would follow the plan but exercised after work. I couldn't sleep until 2 AM because I was so full of energy. I haven't been sleep after lunch either. After the first week, I dropped 5 pounds.

Dear Sarah, I have lost some weight which is good but I cannot find a blast that will give me more energy, please can you give me some recipes that may help, I live in Mexico and sometimes it is hard to find some of the ingredients, thank you.
Ajack63, Congratulations on your weight loss! I am not Sarah but I will offer you some help and hopefully Sarah will respond as well. Without knowing what your lifestyle and diet is like and what you want more energy for I must be rather generic in what I give recommend for you. If I had more info about you I could help better. Making a blast with too much sugar (too many high sugar fruits can cause an energy crash about a hour or so after drinking one, unless you are very active and will burn off the sugar through physical activity. These ingredients will provide stable sustained energy to any blast. green tea Matcha tea (most powerful of all teas) coconut water spirulina spinach kelp (rich in iodine) kale almonds raw cocao goji berries Rice bran (soluble and stabilized) cayenne chia seeds quinoa (pronounced keen wa) raw honey (limit to 1 tbs) Try making blast that include some of these and limit your fruits to no more than half of the blast as low sugar fruit. Keep us informed on how you are doing. Healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.

Our Superfood SuperBoost should be coming to Mexico early next year so keep your eyes out for it :) It's filled with raw cacao, chia, goji, and maca - natural energy boosters!!
If people are looking to lose body fat, they cannot consume large amounts of sugar. So this means fruit as well. Some fruit have more sugar than others. My shakes are strictly dark leafy veggies, avocado and berries. We have to get our bodies to utilized "stored energy" (fat) instead of having our bodies run on glucose.
You are correct however so everyone understands, we do need a some starch for brain and central nervous system activity and higher intensity exercise. I like your recipe! If people will eat 3 to 4 times more veggies than fruits and use low sugar fruits they will be fine. We need complex carbohydrates so the blood sugar is balanced. Healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.
I've heard that drinking or adding some kind of vinegar help you lose weight.. is that true???
Jerdman if you add raw apple cider vinegar (Braggs is the best brand) to your blast or have with a meal it will slow down the absorption of the sugar in the meal or foods. This helps with weight loss by balancing out the rise and fall of your blood sugar levels. When we get too much sugar at one time it causes a blood sugar spike which about an hour later will make us want to eat more starch or sugary foods. Its also has many other healthy benefits for us! Let us know how you are doing Healthy wishes wally Bishop C.N.C.
Thanks again for your help Wally but I am still not getting enough energy from my blasts, when I first bought my NB my morning blast would be Spinach, Banana, raspberries, blueberries, almond nuts and sunflower seeds with water and I used to feel fine, but for some reason I am not getting enough energy. My new blast consists of Spinach, Spirulina, coconut water, almonds, goji berries and chia seeds with some fruit, but I still do not have enough energy. Let me tell you a bit about myself, I have a very stressful job, I spend most of my day in my office occasionally walking around the plant, in the morning I have a NB for breakfast, I have a normal lunch, salad with tuna, and in the evening I have NB to help me sleep, do you have any other tips.
Dear Sarah, at this present time I am taking all these ingredients in your reply, raw cacao, chia, goji, and maca but I still have no energy.
Ajack63 it sounds to me like you are not getting enough calories or maybe not enough water or both. Go to my daily calorie counter to see how many calories a day you need. http://viveshake.com/bmi-calculator-2/ Two blast a day with just one meal and no snacks is not enough calories for most people. You must have at least 1200 calories per day to prevent a big drop in your metabolism which means a lot less energy. If your body fluid level drops by only 2% it can reduce energy by up to 30%. Water is necessary to make energy. Stress combined with a lack of calories or water is a recipe for fatigue. Try this and let me know how you feel in a few days. My bet is you will have more energy! healthy wishes Wally Bishop C.N.C.
ajack63 wrote: Dear Sarah, at this present time I am taking all these ingredients in your reply, raw cacao, chia, goji, and maca but I still have no energy.
Think about some of the other energy boosters and zappers in your life... Are you getting in any exercise? How are you sleeping? Anything stressful at the moment? Eating too much sugar? Not eating enough? Eating too much? Getting enough water in your day? Our overall energy is a combination of the foods we eat as well as our lifestyle habits!
I've been using the bullet for a week, substituting 1 meal with a drink. I feel discouraged because when I read that people have lost 10 pounds in 1 week and I haven't lost anything I get frustrated. I was already hesitant to purchase the product and when I finally do its just okay for me.Now I feel stuck. Here's the deal I am on a budget so I have done Vita Blast for 3 days, detox cleanse for 2 days, Celery (own concoction) mix for 2 days, will this be an issue to repeat recipes? If so why? I have had more regular heavier bowel movements than before but the scale isn't moving!!And my face has broken out like never before!! Any suggestions please

Be patient and remember to never compare yourself to others. Some people have more to lose which means they will have an easier time shedding weight when making one small change. In addition, 10 pounds in one week is too rapid and most likely includes water weight as well. A healthy, sustainable weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. Try to measure your successes through other measurements as well - maybe you're losing inches in your waist, have more energy, lowered your blood sugar levels, etc? We don't gain weight overnight so we cannot expect to lose it over night. Think of the wonderful things Blasting is doing to your body and over time and without worry, you most likely will see the scale go down (if you need to lose weight in the first place). For the time being, search "weight loss" from our home page for a wealth of tips, recipes and on-going forum discussions. Keep Blasting and Enjoy!
I'm fairly new at this myself but have read that the NutriBullet was not designed first of all for weight loss although some have been following a "strict" program and are losing weight. Apparently we have to do some excercises as well and its all about watching what we eat and the amount we eat! I was also hoping to lose weight but I get off track so-to-speak often! hihihi. The idea is I enjoy having at least one blast a day with healthy veggies, fruits and different seeds and/or nuts! I drink lots of water during the day and try to do exercises such as walking on a daily basis! My problem is, I love to eat! For the rash on your face???? don't know what to tell you! Good luck with your program!
Does the large cup make one or two servings?I have been splitting it with my spouse but would like to confirm. I am lost, I don't know what to do first ,what not to do ,when to do it. This is all over my head.

It's up to you! Most people drink a tall cup as a meal replacement (especially if trying to lose weight) and use the smaller cup or split a large cup for a meal or snack. But trust your hunger and use that as a guide. Don't fret about doing anything right or wrong. Have fun with this and feel free to experiment. Use the handy get started guide that came with your NutriBullet. Then head over to our recipes page and search for some recipes that use your favorite ingredients. We also have a Slim Down Plan you can follow if weight loss is your goal. You can find that in our store right here on NutriLiving! For more weight loss tips, search weight loss from the home page for articles and recipes found on this website. If you have any other specific nutrition related Qs, then ask in our Ask the Dietitian forum or other weight loss Qs then post them here. We're here to help :)
When I make recipes from book they won't fit in my tall cup (I put what it calls for)they go past max line?
I believe the line is for liquid. I fill mine all the way up with food and then put liquid to the line. I hope this helps Healthy wishes wally Bishop C.N.C.

Since fruit and veggie size vary, the recipes may not always fit into your cup. As long as you are getting a blend of all ingredients, don't worry about following the recipe exactly as it is outline. You will still get all the healing benefits of having fresh fruits and veggies in your diet. Have fun with your Blasts and feel free to deviate from the recipe slightly. We encourage you to try new ingredients and find the best blend that works for you.
Thank you this puts my mind at ease and I do experiment with my smoothies. I am having to use my regular blender for now till my unit is replaced. I can really tell that the Nutribullet breaks food down much better since having to use my blender. Thanks Nutribullet for a great machine.

Thanks! I just got my 900 yesterday, and wondered whether the line was just for liquid, or for everything. Much appreciated!

For sure keep the liquid below the max line...the ingredients can go a little above, but not too much - you want enough space for the food to circulate and hit the blade. Enjoy!!
I wondered that too I am assuming its two servings because I can only drink half! But I could be wrong.
Keep it up! Change is hard! Don't compare yourself to others it just makes things harder were all diff. As for the rash, maybe its an allergy to something you don't know your allergic to. Try different foods and see. My problem has been feeling a bit bloated, that's the main thing I have to figure out. Just keep going! Maybe use more veggies than fruit. I'm really new to this just on my third day but keep trying a,re you feeling better? That's how to judge more than weight.
I have seen it at target in the small appliance section next to the nutri_bullet!
Just got my NB 600, is the NB 900 is better or what is the real difference between the two?
