I would love to begin eating pineapple again, and especially as an adjunct to my smooties, but I've read that bromelain is dangerous to post menopausal women.  It's been some time since I read this, so I don't remember what the contraindications are/were, but does anyone have any information on the safety as it pertains to post menopausal women?

As far as I know, there are no contraindications for consuming bromelain from pineapple if one is postmenopausal. While pineapple does contain this enzymes, it is not in significant quantities to qualify as medicinal. Supplements are more concentrated. Here is a summary of bromelain and supporting research. There is no mention of menopause being a concern. It does mention other possible interactions that should be considered. http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/bromelain-000289.htm If you do come across your original source, please share it with us and I will look into it further.
