So, I have a lot of allergies. Do you think I can still make this work? I am allergic to: bananas pineapple cranberries peanuts almonds dairy If I just leave those things out of the blasts will it work against me? Thanks!
Lets do this! I'm pumped upLets do this! I'm pumped up to finally have an awesome roadmap to follow here. I've been using my Nutribullet for two weeks now, I've changed my eating habits and I totally feel a difference. I'm really looking forward to the cleanse. Any suggestions on how to work our juicing into our workday? If we make our juices in the morning, will they be ok throughout that day if they are refrigerated? Thanks!
Great Q! Some options are: -Great Q! Some options are: - add the ingredients into the cup the night before and seal it...add your liquid and Blast before heading out of the door. Be sure to keep it cold, away from light and air while stored to retain as many nutrients as possible. So yes, you can blast in the morning and have it at a later time. - take your NutriBullet with you and run it right before you plan to drink it! - freeze portions and let them thaw out overnight or during the day in the fridge. This might take some experimenting to see how long it takes to defrost, but I know some people do this. Sometimes textures become different after frozen so this would be a last resort in my books.
Of course you can! For one, we do not include any dairy so you are good there :) For the other, just make a substitution that fits your diet. Some suggestions I'd say are: Sub mango or avocado in place of banana Use papaya or mango in place of pineapple Use cherries or pomegranate seeds in place of cranberries (or you can use any other berry) For peanuts and almonds, add any other soaked nut or seed you like - walnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, a few hazelnuts Hope that helps!
Thanks! That does help. I was worried that not adding those things would dramatically change the blend. I am actually thinking that the more intense blends might be good for me. I've been using my NB for several months and loving it so I think I'm ready for the more intense blends. Thank you for your help!
Instead of the fresh almond milk recepie can I substitute with the almond breeze unsweetened vanilla almond milk from the carton ?
I am really interested in doing this, but some of the ingrediants I can't get in my town and will have to travel to get what I am missing. So I will do this the following week. Thank you for the information.
If you'd like to do it with the group, feel free to make substitutions for the ingredients you do not have on hand or easy access to. Examples are to sub one berry for another - or buy frozen vs. fresh. Sub in an apple for a pear or frozen mango for pineapple or papaya... If this is not possible, I applaud you doing it the following week and I apologize for not making the list available sooner. When you do it, I'll be here for any questions you have. In addition, you'll have this forum to look back to for insight!
Yes, you absolutely can!
Can I use Red Cabbage in the Gumbo, or will that taste really bad? My local grocer was all out of the green stuff, and I'd like to make the gumbo for tomorrow.
I prepared the Kale-Cabbage Slaw tonight and it's SO delicious! Also made the lentils which will be paired with the slaw...never had lentils before and I really love them!
When a blast recipe calls for avocado, are we leaving the skin on? And what about the pit? Normally I would guess not to use either, but I know with the nutriblast, many ingredients that would typically be discarded are actually the most beneficial. Does anyone know?
That's great! Question: did you let the lentils cool first, or did you put the warm lentils right onto the salad?
Started! Made the gumbo last night, boy was that a lot of chopping! Having my morning Kale blast and it is soooo good! I think you would never use the skin or the pitt on an Avocado. I just use the center.
I know if may be a lot of work, be thankful it is multiple servings and you only have to do the hard work once :) You are correct about the avocado. Here's a handy prep chart to help with almost any ingredient you'd add to your NutriBlast. http://nutribulletblog.com/faq/peelingde-seeding/ Keep up the good work and let us know how you're doing along the way!
Here you go Ryannables...this should help with any NutriBlast prep questions you have! http://nutribulletblog.com/faq/peelingde-seeding/
Lentils are delicious! I'm glad you found another healthy food that you can take with you after the cleanse and use in your daily recipe mix. Keep us posted on your thoughts about the recipes and how you are doing along the way :)
The red should work too, however I have not tried it with that type of cabbage before. There are so many flavors in this one pot that I'm sure it won't overpower them. If you do make it, let us know how you like it!
Hi Ryannables! When I taste-tested it last night, I didn't let the lentils cool. I like the cool salad paired with the warm lentils so that's how I'll serve them up.
I thought I had almond milk in the fridge when I went to make our nutriblast this morning and it was actually unsweetened soy milk. I substituted that and hope this was OK? Is it OK to have 1 cup of coffee a day or are we to totally abstain?
Lay off the coffee for these 7-days...if you need a little caffeine boost, try green tea! Don't fret about the soy milk. You'll want to make sure it is organic if using since most soy is GMO (genetically modified). If you can make it to the store, I'd suggest getting some almond milk or using the recipe to make your own. This will not have the phytoestrogens that soy contains which makes it a more neutral liquid to use. You can also use water, coconut water, green tea (chilled), or another nut milk in place of any suggested liquid.
Can I add a little raw honey to my green tea or are we only allowed it when the NutriBlasts call for it?
Wow! I made my own almond milk this morning...another item I've never had before and I LOVE it! I found a recipe online that uses the almond pulp: serve pulp with raw honey and cacao bits. Voila, a dessert! Of course, I can't eat it while I'm on the cleanse so I'll serve it to my husband.
If you must. Remember, raw honey is still an added sugar. Try it without and if you need that extra sweetness go ahead and add, but try to work your way out of having to sweeten things!
Got it! Thank you, Krista!
Day 2 - A few comments and question: - The Day 1 Morning Smoothie was awesome! Best one yet. - The afternoon Smoothie was not so good. I had a hard time getting it down. Maybe it was the lemon. - The Gumbo last night was really good, my kids even loved it. - Okay I have to ask, sorry to be gross but should I be having regular bowel movements? Mine are small and infrequent. I make sure all my drinks have fiber.
uniqueRN: thanks for asking about the BM because I was getting ready to post the same question. And I had the same issue with the afternoon juice; I had an upset stomach all afternoon. I figured out that it was the parsley causing the problem. I was REALLY fatigued yesterday and was fighting a massive headache--part of it has to do with the fact that I had zero caffeine; this morning I'm drinking green tea. Krista: are there any other side effects that we can expect while on the cleanse?
Thank you for the feedback! Because we are still including the fiber in our foods (vs. juicing that removes the fiber) you should still be having regular bowel movements. Since it is the beginning I wouldn't worry at this point - it is an adjustment to your body and probably more fiber than you are used to. It is critical that you continue to drink plenty of water or other no-sugar and caffeine-free beverage like coconut water, low caffeine green tea, herbal teas, etc. With all this fiber, you can clog up if you do not drink enough liquid outside the NutriBlasts. If this does not help, then I might suggest a scoop of psyllium seed husk...but don't go there just yet. Start w/ the water and allow your body to adapt/balance and keep me posed.
Monica, please see my reply to uniqueRN for the bowel movement recommendation. I hope your stomach troubles have subsided. You nailed it with some detox symptoms...fatigue and headache are the two major ones. Others may include moodiness, foggy brain, some feel cold, and hunger... A few things to try: If you are hungry, steep some green tea or munch on some plain, raw veggies. If extra hungry, chia pudding (made from either water or unsweetened almond milk - and maybe some raw cacao - no sugar) with chia seeds soaked in the fridge for about an hour or so) will help fill your stomach. For a headache - continue to drink water water water...or if it is caffeine related, then try some green tea (which contains a small amount of caffeine). DO NOT TAKE a pain killer like Advil - the idea is to detox not retox the liver. If cold, drink a warm, caffeine-free herbal tea like chamomile, peppermint, elderflower, or nettle. Hang in there...day 2 and 3 are usually the hardest. Sounds like it may have hit you early. Follow some of the recommendations above and keep me posted.
Thanks for this information, Krista! I had all of these symptoms yesterday: foggy brain, hunger, moody, and the cold but I feel much better today. I had a cup of green tea this morning--no raw honey as you recommended in another post. These tips are really helpful!
Krista, Thank you for allKrista, Thank you for all the information & support. Is it possible to get the nutritional values of each of the dinners? Carol
How long will the gumbo keep in the fridge or can it be frozen? Does anyone have body odour like when you eat asparagus? Is this normal?
Carol - You can easily use aCarol - You can easily use a site like the following to estimate nutritional values for the dinners and/or NutriBlasts. Sorry, we wanted to keep this non-numbers focused since it is not about weigh loss, but about jump staring a healthy New Year! Just type in the ingredients and amounts and you'll see what each meal/Blast contains... http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php
patti - The gumbo just likepatti - The gumbo just like most leftovers can keep in the fridge for about 72 hours (3 days - maybe 4)...however feel free to freeze some and then defrost in the fridge the day before you plan on eating it! Body odor is most likely a symptom of detox...yes, it is normal. Today, try to get in some light activity to induce sweating (walking, yoga, biking) - or if you are lucky to have access to a sauna or steam room...or a nice hot bath in the tub (maybe add in some Epsom salt to enhance the detox). That should help speed it along!
Yesterday and today have irregular heartbeat, which I have had occasionally but went on internet to see if the basic cleansing diet is doing it and I am not sure but I believe it is to much Vit K for me as I am on baby aspirin. So afraid I will cut back on the greens to see if that makes a difference for me.
Yes, patti...the vitamin K would negate some effects of the baby aspirin just as it would blood thinners. Please contact your Dr. if this persists...those with any type of medical condition should be closely monitored while on any type of strict dietary regimen. You have a good plan...make adjustments so that you feel better. You may wish to add in some small meals/snacks to get your body back on a normal routine. Just try to eat clean... Please keep us posted.
Thanks I will do that.
Still feeling great! 2 more days! Love the morning smoothie with the raw cacao! Felt like it really satisfied my chocolate fix. No vegetables this morning? Felt like I was cheating on them. LOL.
Is it common to get a rash from the cleanse & if so about how many days should it last? Carol
Carol, I've heard of this as a side effect for some people. If you are not allergic to a particular food or have had candida outbreaks, then it most likely is due to the skin's reaction to toxin release. I noticed most who are detoxing from a high sugar diet experience this. The duration of the skin reaction varies among individuals. The skin detox symptoms could last from few days to a few weeks, depending on variables such as skin type, duration of cleanse, diet, the trigger of the rash, etc. If it is not severe, it is best to allow the body to do what it has to, and wait it out. A few things that may expedite the process are: 1) Drink a lot of water. 2) Use a loofah sponge or dry skin brush to remove oils and dead skin, help unclog pores and enhance the skin's ability to detoxify. 3) Use a sauna or work up a light sweat to help clear the pores. 4) Do not further irritate the skin by picking, rubbing or squeezing it or by clogging the pores with cosmetic products. If it persists, you are worried, or if it is severe, check with your Dr. and stop the cleanse immediately.
hahaha!
question : how long should a new owner/nutribullet enthusiast remain in phase1 before venturing into phase2 recipes?
Are you speaking about the cleanse or are you talking about the Six Week Transformational Plan? The Cleanse is a 7 day plan and I would recommend starting with the Basic Cleanse Plan if you are just starting out. If you are speaking about the Transformation Plan...this is outlined in detail in the Natural Healing Foods Book. It consists of three 2-week phases. However, you can take it at your own pace. If you need to stay in one phase for a longer amount of time, you are most welcome to do that. Modifications are always an option. The book provides an outlined plan along with NutriBlast recipes and lunch/snack/and dinner recipes.

I think I want to start with this cleanse before I try the 3 day but I feel like its a lot of fruit to consume as opposed to vegetables? Also can you sub in different fruits if you don't have peaches or cherries on hand?

Yes, you can make any similar substitutions based on ingredients you have or are easier to find.
The link you provided doesn't work, can you give me a new one that does work? I'm interested in the Super Cleanse plan. Thanks

Hello! I just found this site, and I wish I would have found it a long time ago. I'm looking forward to filling in my profile and pic later. I got off blasting for a while, and now I'm back on and loving it. I’m planning on doing the 7 day cleanse starting Monday to get a good jump on weight a very large weight loss journey! I was wondering if the "50%" that is in the recipes means 1 serving? Thanks!

Glad you've found us! 50% refers to filling your large cup half way with leafy greens which is about 1-2 cups depending on type and how tightly packed they are (remember not to pack too tight to allow room to extract). According to the USDA, a fruit or veggie serving is 1/2 cup of cooked or raw veggies/fruits and 1 cup of leafy greens so that would make about 1-2 servings of greens. When you add in your other fruits and veggies, you can get in about 4-6 servings towards your daily intake depending on size and type. Here's a couple good guides to help you determine how much makes a cup or half a cup: http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/fruitsvegetables/cup.html http://www.choosemyplate.gov/printpages/MyPlateFoodGroups/Vegetables/food-groups.vegetables-counts.pdf
Great information, thanks! My last question will stem from timing. My workday starts by me normally eating breakfast in the morning between 3:30 and 4am. Lunch is followed around 10:30am, and dinner around 5. I know there is a specific outline for the times of the day to blast. Should I wait until those times, or would I be ok doing my regular times?

Since your schedule is different, I'd adjust the times to meet your needs. I'd suggest having some warm water with lemon and/or ginger upon waking and then eating within an hour or two of waking. Then have the next NutriBlast about 4-5 hours later and then the dinner about 4-5 hours after that. It looks like you go quite a while between meals so you may find that you get hungry just with a NutriBlast, so feel free to make another smaller one in between or have a clean snack like some soaked nuts, a small cup of pureed vegetable-based soup, or raw veggies or fruit in between. Good luck :)
I am starting the Basic cleanse (7-day), do I use the small cup or the large cup when making the daily juice? I can not find info for size of cup. Thanks, Sally

You can go ahead and incorporate the Fat Burning Boost into any of the Blasts you would like. Have fun with it =).
While doing the Basic Cleanse Plan, what snack foods do you recommend to eat in between your nutriblast smoothies if you get hungry?
Thanks
SweetPea49 wrote: While doing the Basic Cleanse Plan, what snack foods do you recommend to eat in between your nutriblast smoothies if you get hungry?
Some good snack options are those that stick w/ the "clean foods" plan! So no caffeine, added sugar, gluten, soy, meats or poultry or fish, dairy, or alcohol. I personally like to munch on some raw nuts and seeds (walnuts, almonds, sunflower or pumpkin), lower sugar fruit, steamed veggies like broccoli/cauliflower/spinach/Brussels, etc, some cooked quinoa or brown rice with a dash of cinnamon, or some raw veggies with some homemade hummus.
I've started the Basic Cleanse plan and I have this headache that won't seem to go away. Please give me some suggestions on how to get rid of the headache. Thanks

It is very important while you are on the cleanse to make sure you are getting an adequate amount of water. Sometimes when people drink Blasts they forgot that water is also important to be drinking throughout the day. You also may need to include a little salt in your diet, maybe put a sprinkle of salt in one of your blasts or are eating something with some sodium.
Thanks
I'm just starting out and am beginning Stage 1 in the User Guide & Recipe book. Questions: 1) All the recipes I've used are very bland and would like to know if this is expected or is their a way to get more flavor? 2)I made one today with an avacado and it is not settling well? Are there better/more flavorable recipes that I can use during this initial stage? 3)When should I take a Nutriblast designed for improved night sleep for it to be effective? Thank you.

Feel free to add in some additional ingredients like cinnamon, 1/2 banana, some pineapple, a bit of vanilla almond milk or something to your liking in order to make it taste good! Phase 1 is all about getting you started to Blast and including more fruits and veggies in your diet!! For the sleep recipes, I'd suggest trying those about 3 hours before you go to bed. Ideally you want to stop eating at this time in order for your body to digest the food and prevent any acid reflux caused by laying down.
Do you know if the Nutribullet concept would be effective in improving the memory and health of a senior dealing with dimentia? If so, what foods should be emphasized and any recommended nutriblast recipes? Thank you.

Absolutely! And if you love them, please share the recipes with us ;)
Is it possible when going through Stage #1 (detox period) that one's body could be experiencing some noticeable ajustments?
ronjon wrote: Is it possible when going through Stage #1 (detox period) that one's body could be experiencing some noticeable ajustments?
Yes, when you change your diet and clean things up the body will naturally start to detox. This could mean increased bowel movements, increased urination, nausea, headaches, etc. Everyone is different but give it a week or 2 and your body will adjust.
I am on my third day, only doing one blast in the mornings. Yesterday afternoon, I had diarrhea and figured it was the detox, it stopped as suddenly as it began. Is this normal and how long will it last, so I can go away from home. :) Thanks VF

These can be found at most health food stores including Whole Foods. There are also places online that carry them - places such as www.essentiallivingfoods.com, www.nuts.com, and www.navitasnaturals.com.
