Can I add rolled oats to Nutriblasts?

Are rolled oats (old fashioned or quick cook), ok to add to nutriblasts?

I have some quick cook (not instant) rolled oats, and have thought about adding a tablespoon or a litle more to my morning blasts, and was wondering if putting them in, dry, to mix with my kale/spinach, grapes, berry, banana balsts makes sense. Thanks.

Absolutely! I love oats in my NutriBlasts. It lends to a creamy, thicker Blast.

If using instant, quick cooking, or old fashioned rolled oats, then you can toss them in without cooking. If using Irish, steel cut, or oat groats, then these must be cooked prior to adding since these are a bit more rough on the digestive system.
I LOVE oats in my smoothies! I can put up to a 1/4 cup in to the tall glass -- that amount definitely lends itself to making the smoothy taste "oat-y" but if you enjoy oats, it's a great way to thicken and fortify your drinks. I'm drinking one right now with oats and quinoa....pretty thick but very filling!
Wow. Adding oats sounds like a great idea. I was starting to get away from oatmeal, because I'm starting to suspect I have a gluten intolerance. I wonder exactly how much gluten there is in instant oats. Also, I read that instant oats are converted into sugar very rapidly. That doesn't sound good for me, as my Blasts are currently causing some unwanted reactions that I'm starting to believe are caused by high sugar content. Are there any oats that I could just sprinkle in (without cooking) that are lower on the glycemic index? Because I would really like to add some!
Look for gluten-free oats. While oats are naturally gluten-free, some are cross contaminated during processing or when grown nearby gluten-containing wheat crops. You are correct, the more processed the oats are, the higher on the glycemic index they are.

However, when combined with the high fiber ingredients in your NutriBlast in addition to some healthy fats like avocado, nuts, or seeds, the rush into your blood sugar is blunted leaving a more even, slow sugar release!

A few other options are to use cooked quinoa (already gluten-free) and cooked steel cut oatmeal or barley or one of your other favorite grains. What I do is add some uncooked Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (not the instant and not the Irish or Steel Cut - the latter MUST be cooked or soaked before eating). These are lower GI than the instant variety!

Make sure your Blasts contain more veggies than fruits to lower the sugar content. I like to do 2/3 veggies and 1/3 fruit.
Yes, I add them in my morning NutriBlast every day. Tastes great and makes them a lot more filling!
