Do you have any advice for nodular acne?

Can you offer any advice or help on Nodular Acne? My son has acne on his cheeks pretty badly and the dermatologist recommened Accutane. But reading about the side affects is very scary. Thank you.

Official Answer

Acne can have many causes from what you eat to what you put on your skin to what you are exposed to in your environment. Eliminating certain foods like processed sugars, refined carbohydrates, caffeine, fried foods and in some cases gluten, may help clear up acne. Make sure you are using all natural skin care products and avoiding ingredients that can be toxic. Deficiencies in minerals like zinc and selenium have been linked to acne. Include foods that are rich in both like walnuts, almonds, pine nuts, brazil, cacao powder and sunflower seeds. Avocado is a great ingredient to add to Blast or you can lather it directly on your skin. It is full of healthy fats, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Fennel can help promote digestion, decrease inflammation which leads to clearer skin. Include high antioxidant foods to help clear damaging cells that can promote inflammation and aging. Try alfalfa sprouts, artichokes, broccoli and ginger. Make sure you are drinking water throughout the day at is will help your body flush out toxins that may be causing breakouts.
