What is the RDA of magnesium?

I have a question about magnesium. What is the RDA for it? I currently use green leafy veggies with sesame seeds, fruits, tumeric, ginger and cinnamon in my blasts and take a multivitamin, B-12 and a 500 mg magnesium supplement. Just wondering if its possible to take too much.

The RDA depends on your age and gender - it's around 400-420mg/day for males. Too much magnesium from food does not pose a health risk in healthy individuals because the kidneys eliminate excess amounts in the urine. However, high doses of magnesium from dietary supplements or medications often result in diarrhea that can be accompanied by nausea and abdominal cramping.
Thanx Krista. Great article in the link. I'm taking magnesium oxide which according to the article provides 300mg after absorption but with the rest of the foods I'm eating I'm slightly over the RDA. That helps explain the frequent trips to the bathroom.
