Yes, I stand by my recommendation. The days of claiming saturated fats are the cause of heart disease are over.
There's research showing that inflammation is one of the underlying causes of high cholesterol and atherosclerosis. Healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids are well known to help reduce inflammation.

I don't think we can put all the blame on one ingredient, in this case oil...most of it lies in the over-processed, nutrient-poor foods that are widely available.
Here's a good article that one of our commenters posted that helps explain this in more detail:

I'm not saying the programs that Dr. McDougall and Dr. Esselstyn aren't effective. I'm a huge fan of both of them as well as his son Rip Esselstyn and the Engine 2 Diet. The common thread between all of us is EAT MORE PLANTS! This I think is the key to heart health.
Thank you krista the information from the surgeon is very interesting however since you say you also respect mcDougall Esselstyn engine diet etc they do have remarkable recoveries from all number of inflammatory disease it's especially interesting to watch John McDougall MD testimonial videos they all ofcourse advocate zero oil.
I have had heart disease despite being a veggie for 40years and vegan for 5 years I tried the diet for rhumatoid arthritis after 2 weeks of this bland diet there was no improvement so then I did the elimination diet which in my case was brown rice veg only for another 10 days phew!!! Still no response, I might not of persevered for long enough it's so confusing!!!!!
Your Dr suggests auger is the culprit I've heard this often but no one ever says if all sugars are bad ie molasses, honey xylitol etcetcetc and then there's sugar in fruit. Can you recommend anything for this R/a it's agony often my joints and muscles are on fire. I'm not overweight have lots of energy I'm in my 60s. The R arthritis started from a virus just after a very bad flu 10 years ago. Yours respectfully Nathan
You don't answer my request!!
Thank you krista
The heart surgeon makes sense though I'm a vegan. When it comes to sugar no one explains if all sugars create inflammtion ie honey, molasses xylitol etc ie are they all inflammatory. Also what about the oil in nuts and seeds as I make my own nut cheese?
I have had heart diesease despite being vegetarian for 40 years vegan for 6 years.
