Are cacao beans toxic?

I was just starting out on the cacao beans last year.  I was informed of its many benefits.  Then I learnt due to the presence of Theobromine amonst other reasons the bean is notably toxic to humans and other animals.  What is your go on this.

Theobromine is in small enough amounts in cacao that is not considered toxic to humans, usually about 1-4%. The health benefits of cacao out-weigh the slight chance of reaching toxic levels by ingesting large amounts, and trust me, I have eaten large amounts of cacao with no harmful side effects. =)

I am not one of the experts here at Nutri Living, but I really can't understand this thinking. Cacao is chocolate in it's purest form. Cacao is considered a super food. It is full of nutritious properties. It was the food of the ancients, in Mexico. Humans have been eating Cacao based foods for milennia.
