How can I improve my diet and fight anemia?

I've been striving to improve my health and quality of life by eating more healthily, eliminating dairy and substituting slowely my average meat intake for more veggies etc... I've been enjoying the benefits incredibly, but I have been strongly anemic for 2 years or so and, even with these changes, don't seem to be able to improve my condition (even when taking iron+Vitamin C pills). My question is, what could I do to improve my diet and overcome this condition once and for all? I would much appreciate any input and suggestions!! :)

Focus on high iron foods and combing them with citrus. Use spinach, soybeans, lentils, tofu, sesame seeds, garbanzo beans, lima beans, olives, navy beans and swiss chard. High vitamin C foods include: kiwis, oranges, papaya, red bell peppers, strawberries, pineapple and broccoli.
