Which recipes do you recommend for ulcertaive colitis?

I just purchased a Nutribullet two days ago, and finished my second Nutriblast. My hope is to lose at least 5 pounds and to help keep ulcerative colitis in remission. I have had the disease now for ten years and doing well with the help of 6MP and Balsalazide meds. However, it would be really nice to get off of the 6MP if I could. I wanted to start slow so I used 1 handful of spinach, ½ carrot, ½ banana, ½ orange, and 1TBS. each of hemp and pumpkin seeds in both blasts drinking one per day. The first day I had a stomach ache and gas. In fact I got a little concerned that maybe I would go into another flare up. The only thing I did different on the second day was peel the ½ carrot before use and I didn’t have the stomach pain but still had some gas. I was looking at all the great recipes listed on this site and wondering what would be recommended for ulcerative colitis and also is there a place where the nutrition facts are posted?

Unfortunately each person reacts to different foods in a unique way. It may take some trial and error. What we do know is that introducing more fibrous foods into your diet quickly can often cause some digestive discomfort. If you are not used to eating a lot of plant-based foods (veggies, fruits, legumes, beans, nuts, and seeds), then introduce them slowly - maybe start with a small cup NutriBlast for a week, then slowly increase consumption of these foods outside of Blasting, then you may be ready for a tall cup by the next month. Continue to drink plenty of water between meals so that you do not become constipated.

A couple other things you may want to consider and should ask your Dr. about are a probiotic, cooking some veggies if raw are too hard on your digestive system, avoiding dairy, and eating small frequent meals vs. a few larges ones. Using the NutriBullet and breaking down your food should help with nutrient absorption and digestion!

If you experience a flare up, you may want to cut back on the fibrous foods, then re-introduce them after it subsides. Also, avoiding foods that may cause gas could be beneficial: http://www.nutriliving.com/blog/feeling-bloated. To help determine your "trigger" foods, I'd recommend keeping a food diary and seeing if there are any foods you eat that cause a flare up.

Again, always check w/ your Dr. to make sure these recommendations are appropriate for you and if taking certain medications that there are no food/drug interactions.
