Why would I "add" kale to the 1/2 cup of leafy greens I start with?

Couldn't respond to answer to first question, so if kale is both leafy and green why not tell us that we need "5 greens and x, y, z of each of the other four colors" ? Instead of taking silly quiz that says I need 1 red, 2 orange, 2 yellow, 1 green and 1 blue added to my leafy.

This is the way the quiz is designed. Not everyone will need additional greens, however in your case it sounds like detox was a trigger for the quiz. You can add broccoli, green cabbage, cucumber, zucchini, chlorella, spirulina, or other green foods besides kale. The leafy greens that you begin with is a standard for everyone.
