The medium-chain triglycerides in coconut oil are used as energy vs. stored as fat which may assist weight loss. We still need more research though. Coconut is still high in fat and calories and as we all know, excess calories can lead to weight gain. There are some great health benefits with moderate coconut oil consumption (including anti-bacterial, dry skin conditions, and increasing the good HDL cholesterol). The same should hold true for coconut milk, but not much research is available for coconut milk.
