Why can't I use pieces of whole apple rather than juice it first to get pure apple juice?

Recipe for Hot Cinnamon Apple Cider calls for "pure apple juice" and I'd like to know why the apples must be juiced first rather than throwing an apple into the blender. Another recipe calls for orange juice rather than an orange. Same question.

You can do it either way. Here's one that uses whole apples.

It just depends on if you want a thinner consistency vs. a thicker smoothie-like beverage with the fiber. We like to give options.
