Combining carbs with protein

In your booklet you mentioned that carbs should not be eaten with protein - what about protein such as hummus or pure greek yoghurt (I don't want to exclude milk derived products from my diet) are they ok to be eaten with fruit/complex carbs? Are any cabers (such as grains: millet, barley, buckwheat, wild rice) ok to be eaten with meat/fish? Thanks

Dietitian's Answer

Since then, not a lot of research has come out supporting "food combining" for everyone. This may be used more on an as-needed basis for those with digestive troubles. Sometimes combining certain foods (in whole form) don't allow for proper digestion in those with inadequate enzymes or are lacking good gut bacteria. When the NutriBullet pulverizes foods, it’s reverting food to it’s pre-digested state, reducing the load on the GI system and making them more easily digestible and absorbable. By consuming fruits, veggies and boosts in this manner, many find it less taxing on their digestion as compared to ingesting food in its whole food. Check out this article for more on this topic.

So to answer your Q...if you are not having any digestive issues, then feel free to combine healthy foods in any manner you wish.
