Do scratches, holes, and brown marks on apples and other vegetables pose health threats?

Can the produce be eaten without the removal of scratch marks and so on, unless they also have obvious unhealthy spots like molds, black marks and whatnot?

As long as the produce is not rotten then yes it should be fine. Be sure the holes aren't from any insects that found their way inside the apple.
