What can I do to build up my system after pancreatic cancer whipple surgery? I have lost significant amount of weight.

Whipple Procedure or pancreaticoduodenectomy is the removal of head of the pancreas, gall bladder, duodenum, upper part of the small intestine, small parts of the stomach, and the lymph nodes near the pancreas. It's no small feat so we you happy for you and your family that you are on your way to recovery!

Due to your weight loss, it sounds like there is an inadequate amount of calories consume or if you are consuming, there is a problem absorbing the calories. Before starting any new regiment, please review all information with your oncologist or a dietitian specializing in oncology.

Adding calories through your smoothies and soups can be helpful. If the volume is too much, ramp up the total volume slowly. Add nutrient and calorie-dense foods like oils (coconut, avocado), avocados, nut butters, seeds (chia, hemp), Greek yogurt, and nuts. Also consider adding proteins like plant-based protein supplement, lean protein like chicken, fish, or eggs to your diet.

Adding ingredients like oats, avocado, and bananas, and ice can thicken your smoothies and soups so adjust accordingly.
