What can I do to avoid high iron levels in my blood or hemochromatosis?

Mom has to much iron in her blood what can she do to lower it? She is worried

High iron levels can be bad for you. Some people are genetically coded to have high levels of iron. Depending on the cause of high iron - genetics or consuming too much iron, it is something to speak with your doctor to about. In the mean time avoid excess consumption of high iron foods like dark leafy greens and red meat.

My brother has hemochromatosis and was told by his doctor that donating blood on a regular basis would manage it. Apparently, it's genetic so I got tested for it (got a negative result).
