Signs and Symptoms
Allergies are your body’s oversensitive reaction to substances that are otherwise harmless. Allergens, or foreign substances, trigger an immune response normally reserved to prevent bacterial and viral infections. Allergies arise when the body releases chemicals called histamines when it believes an offending substance has invaded it.
Nasal sprays can help clear the pathways and over-the-counter medicines also help relieve symptoms. Food allergies can be treated with an elimination diet, followed by an avoidance diet.
