Multiple Sclerosis

Signs and Symptoms

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease caused by damage to the tissues of the brain and spinal cord, specifically the myelin sheath, or the protective barrier surrounding nerve fibers. The body’s immune cells attack the nervous system, causing inflammation that eventually leads to damage to the nerves and impaired signaling, leading to a disruption between the brain and the body.

The most commonly believed cause of this disorder is a virus or gene defect, but others suspect environmental factors may play a role. MS attacks and symptoms may be reduced with medication and proper diet and lifestyle changes.
